CMYK Art Studio Students Bring Spring Storefront to Life at Nourish in Downtown Ballston Spa
April 20, 2026
Ballston Spa, NY — Nourish in downtown Ballston Spa is proud to unveil a vibrant new Spring window display, conceptualized and designed by 3rd–5th grade students from CMYK Art Studio. The installation is the result of a March after-school Window Display + Installation art intensive class, offering young artists a hands-on opportunity to apply creative thinking in a real-world setting.
Working collaboratively as a design team, students brainstormed, sketched, and developed individual concepts for a seasonal storefront display. Each student presented their design to Nourish owner Betsy Seplowitz, who thoughtfully selected elements from across the group to form one cohesive, collaborative vision. Their ideas explored color, movement, and layering, culminating in a dynamic large-scale installation featuring colorful repurposed table coverings at CMYK to create paper chains, oversized garlands of Spring symbols each representing a different student in the class, and intricate drawings and mandala-inspired designs which were infused in the window paintings.
Using the students’ work as a blueprint, CMYK Art Studio owner Meagan Masti, art instructor Cara Duffy, and Betsy Seplowitz brought the display to life by painting the storefront windows on Friday, April 17. Throughout the process, they reflected how this process felt very similar to that of conceptual artist Sol LeWitt. They were taking the instructions and creative direction from the students–which reflects LeWitt’s philosophy that the idea itself can be the artwork, and that its realization can be carried out by others while still maintaining the integrity of the original concept.
“This project allowed students to experience what it’s like to be a working artist,” said Meagan Masti, Owner of CMYK Art Studio. “They learned to think like a creative professional—considering space, scale, and varying perspectives—while working together to bring this complex project to life in just six hours of class time.”
The finished display is a bright, engaging celebration of the Spring season. Passersbys are invited to interact with the installation with a photo opportunity in front of a large butterfly on the inside window, with a prompt to share their photos online using the hashtag #nourishbutterfly.
“It has been incredibly special to see the students’ ideas come to life in our storefront,” said Betsy Seplowitz, owner of Nourish. “Their creativity, attention to detail, and fresh perspective bring a whole new energy to the space. This collaboration reflects exactly what we value at Nourish—community, creativity, and supporting youth.”
For the students, the experience reinforces the value of their creative voice, while demonstrating how art can shape and energize community spaces.
